Creating Variety in Newborn Photography | Modesto Newborn Photographer

As a passionate Modesto newborn photographer, I believe that each session should be a unique experience that captures the essence of your little one. My approach revolves around highlighting those tiny details while ensuring a variety of stunning images. Here’s a glimpse into my process for creating beautiful newborn photography sessions.
I offer several session types for newborn photography. While smaller packages provide a bit less variety—especially my swaddled-only sessions—a full newborn session typically focuses on various aspects of your baby across multiple setups.
To start, I ask clients for their desired color schemes and a few inspirational photos. I handle the heavy lifting from there! With my extensive collection of props, I can create hundreds of different setups and strive to introduce new designs for each client. Designing is actually my favorite part of this job!

In full sessions, I focus on gently posed shots, both with and without outfits. While I never pose a baby fully naked, I do offer “unwrapped” shots, where your baby is in just a diaper, with fabric elegantly draped over it. Depending on the session type, your baby will wear between one and three outfits. Since some babies are less tolerant of outfit changes, the number of outfits varies based on your little one’s comfort, this is my top priority. A cranky baby is not going to take good photos, so keeping your little one calm, safe and content is the most important part of my job.
Outfits are chosen based on your styling and color preferences. My ever-expanding collection features natural-looking outfits made from soft fibers, alongside a few whimsical options like princess dresses or teddy bear outfits. I have hundreds of headbands, wraps, sleepy hats and bonnets available for use during your session.
Depending on your package, I will have anywhere from three to ten fully customized setups ready for you and your little one on session day. While I aim for colors that flow well together and match your home, don’t hesitate to explore beyond the typical neutrals, pinks, and blues. This season, I’m loving yellows, rusts, and greens! And remember, blue isn’t just for boys!

My Modesto newborn photography studio boasts a stunning 6’x12′ wall packed with every color under the rainbow of florals and greenery, ensuring I have something to match your vibe. With about 30 backdrop colors to choose from and an endless combination of props, wraps, tiny pillows, and soft fabrics, your session will be tailored to perfection.
When it comes to props, my design philosophy centers on creating variety and dimension using different textures, fabrics, florals, and natural fibers. I prefer timeless designs with solid colors or simple styles over overly themed ones (think Star Wars or Harry Potter). My designs remain baby focused and are sure to age well as timeless heirloom pieces for your family.
My prop sets are often done swaddled, although I do have a few props that are safe for outfit poses. Your little one’s safety is priority; if a baby that decides to be a little party animal during their session and stay awake, they must be wrapped in a prop. An awake baby moves A LOT, making most prop poses unsafe without a swaddle to contain their wild little arms and legs.

Detail shots are often the most overlooked and what I believe to be the most important part of newborn photography. You will absolutely want to remember, just how tiny those little fingers were, especially wrapped around mom or dad’s finger. Those tiny little lashes, sweet side profiles and teeny toes are all important memories I will preserve for you.
If your session includes family, I have both a traditional backdrop area and a lifestyle area of my studio for family poses, including special props to use with siblings of any age!
